“El Hechizo de la Comprensión”: Vida y obra de Hannah Arendt (The Enchantment of Understanding: The Life and work of Hannah Arendt)

Enero 2010

Casa Sefarad begins its 2010 cultural activities with a presentation of the book El hechizo de la comprensión (The Enchantment of Understanding). Published by Encuentro, the work composes the first biography of Hanna Arendt originally published in Spanish. Its young author, Teresa Gutiérrez de Cabiedes, builds various pictures under the titles Penumbra y alumbramiento al amanecer (Dusk and illumination to dawn), Viajes a la patria interior (Journeys to the inner fatherland), Puentes entre pasado y futuro (Bridges between the past and the future), and Sombra y luz de un autorretrato (Light and shade of a self-portrait), forming an in depth portrait of the life of the Jewish-German author. The Nazi harassment, escape to France, emigration to the United States, the dialogue with Jaspers and Heidegger among other great philosophers of the era, the genesis of her most celebrated works such as Eichmann in Jerusalem, The Origins of Totalitarianism and The Human Condition are all contained in the pages of The Enchantment of Understanding.
